The Facts: Faking Personality Tests

How much do you rely on good data to make decisions?

Would you choose a car just because the dealer said it was awesome?  Would you choose a surgeon because they were charming?  Would you choose an AirBnB when the only positive review was from the owner?   Of course not, you’d look for good data to back up your decision.

But how often are employers and recruiters choosing candidates because they had a great resume they wrote themselves, provided refererences they selected (never gotten a bad reference!), were focused, prepared, curious, and charismatic in the interview, and the results of their personality testing backed up their assessment of themselves.

Interesting to note that a job seeker can buy the ‘right’ answers to most assessments online (check out one of many options - https://www.jobtestprep.co.uk/free-personality-test), and a super-smart psychopath with high intellectual empathy but no real care for people will be brilliant at reading the room in the interview and meeting the brief.

At this point, lots of recruiters and employers will be saying they do a barrage of tests to filter for this, and 360 assessments assure you get other people’s views.  At the end of the day, most of it is still the sum of subjective estimates.  The assessment industry has done a great job of conflating test reliability and validity with the essential question - “Is the test taker telling the truth?”   If they took the test twice and were super honest one time and completely bullshitted on the second - would you know which was which?

There are very few tests that actually tell you if the person is telling the truth.   And there are even fewer that give deep insights into the real personality of the candidate - telling you if they can drive business performance, and whether they have the virtues and motivations to look after people and support psychosocially safe workplaces.

The GreyScale Assessment does all of this.  First and foremost, it is a highly effective bullshit detector that tells you if the candidate is telling the truth - it detects 99% of inauthentic responses.  It also identifies whether their genuine Performance Personality is a good fit for the role and results the business needs to create.  Finally, it is the only test on the market that provides specific data on how a person impacts the psychosocial safety of other people.
